Kitchen Cabinets Denver- Where do you start when you need cabinets?

Hi there, Danya Prado here from Impressions Inc. in Denver, Colorado. –

I imagine you’ve landed at this Kitchen Cabinets Denver website because you need to figure out the best place to purchase cabinets here in Colorado. I know there are so many options out there, it can get a little overwhelming.

The way I see it, you have three main choices for your cabinetry needs-

• an independent kitchen and bath designer

• big home center stores

• remodel/construction companies

There are some pros and cons for each option. I have worked for each type of company, so I’m going to let you in on a little insider information here. . .

Independent Kitchen and Bath Designer
Your first choice would be to use an independent kitchen and bath designer such as myself. My company is called Impressions Inc. I do not have a showroom so I have less in the way of samples to look at. I keep a box of sample chips and a bunch of sample doors in the back of my car to bring to the homes of my clients. (Although I can order whatever is needed in the way of sample doors.)

The benefits of using me would be the quality service and the low cost of the cabinetry. Since I have very little overhead costs to cover, I can pass along extremely reasonable pricing to my clients.

Since I have been exclusively designing kitchens and baths for the last nine years, I am very good at what I do. I specialize in coming up with creative and practical designs to meet the specific needs of my clients. Although surprises and hitches are normal in any project, I have been able to minimize these occurrences because of my accuracy and attention to detail.

I carry Canyon Creek cabinets which is a very versatile brand because of the different style and quality options they offer. I haven’t found anything yet that they can’t do. They offer very low-end to very high-end cabinets. They have traditional kitchen cabinets as well as contemporary kitchen cabinets.

I can be as involved as you’d like me to be. If you just need to order cabinets, that’s fine with me. If you need help figuring out the perfect layout and design, that’s my specialty. If you need an interior designer to help with the overall scope of your project, I have an award winning one at my disposal. If you need an installer or kitchen contractor, I have a few that I work with all the time and trust immensely. If you need more than just cabinets, I also have reasonable pricing on any other type of product that you would need for your project.

As far as the process goes, I usually start by meeting with you in your home, talking about what you want, and taking measurements. I then draw up an initial design in my 20-20 Design Software so you can see it in 3D.

My initial consultation, design, and estimate are absolutely free of charge.

Home Centers
Big home center stores such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, or The Great Indoors can be appealing because they have so many displays and samples to look at. It is easy to get a good idea of what you want. If you are looking for extremely inexpensive cabinets or discount cabinets that you can pull off the shelf, this may be a good option for you.

If you are looking to get a design done and order custom cabinets, or semi-custom cabinets, you may run into some problems along the way. Home Depot and Lowe’s use very inexperienced designers. Cabinetry design can be very intricate and it requires a good deal of attention to detail and accuracy. The inexperienced designers tend to make mistakes which end up costing money- even if the money loss is in the form of time lost waiting for new parts. It can be a huge hassle trying to get problems resolved within the bureaucratic framework of these companies.

The cabinetry prices at Lowe’s and Home Depot aren’t too bad because they buy in bulk, but the prices aren’t anything that can’t be matched or beaten elsewhere.

They do offer contractors to do the cabinet installation which offers an element of convenience, but the cost of the labor is being marked-up twice- once by the contractor, and once by the home center so it is extremely overpriced.

The Great Indoors does use more experienced designers but the mark-up on their products is so high that the costs quickly outweigh the benefits.

Remodel Companies
Smaller remodel or construction companies have some perks as well. These may be a couple of guys who work from a small office, or it may be a larger company with a showroom or storefront. These companies often have direct accounts with cabinet dealers so the smaller ones can give you pretty good pricing.

If it is a bigger remodel company or a kitchen and bath store with a showroom, they should have a good amount of samples to look at. If it is a smaller company, you often get to work closely with the actual person who will be in your home so there’s not a lot of communication breakdown.

The main drawback is that a lot of these companies don’t use actual designers. Usually it is just one of the owners or employees masquerading as a designer and putting together the cabinetry plan. So overall the design suffers.

If the company is big enough to have a kitchen and bath designer or multiple designers on staff, than the overall cost of the project is usually more because they have higher overhead costs that they need to cover to stay in business just because of the size of the company.

I hope you found this information helpful.  Thank you for visiting my Kitchen Cabinets Denver site.

Creating a Budget for your Kitchen Remodel

The first thing you want to do when considering a kitchen remodel is decide on a budget.  Here are some good rules of thumb to help you along the way.

Your overall budget should be in the range of 15% of the overall value of your home.  The good news is that according to Remodeling Magazine’s Cost to Value report, kitchen remodeling projects can have as much as a 112% return on investment.  So this is money well spent as you will most likely get it back out of your home when you go to sell.

The average cost of a kitchen remodel is $15k on the low end and $85k for high end projects.  The average cost of a kitchen remodel is $45k.

So how do you know how much to spend on what?  Here are some guidelines to help you broken down into percentage of your overall budget:

Cabinets                                  40%

Countertops                            9%

Appliances                              10%

Lighting/Electrical                  10%

Wall Covering                         3%

Floor Covering                        8%

Labor (including plumbing)    20%

It’s also a good idea to leave in some contingency money in each category for unexpected expenses or problems.  Every remodel is different and there are some obstacles that are just unknown until you start tearing things out.  Be sure to account for things like shipping and tax as well.

Only you can decide what is most important to you.  If you have your heart set on a big industrial range, up the percentage for appliances.  If you want faux finished plaster walls, you may want to up the wall covering category.  Just make sure you decide where to lower your percentages in the other categories.

Sticking to a budget you can afford will help keep stress levels low and ensure that your project runs as smoothly as possible.

Kitchen Cabinets Denver- Why Canyon Creek Cabinets?

If you’re searching for kitchen cabinets Denver, you will come across a variety of brands and manufacturers.

I like Canyon Creek because they are pretty much one stop shopping for whatever you’re looking for in the world of cabinets.  You can view their extensive options at

They offer many traditional cabinet styles as well as many contemporary styles and everything in between.  You can use framed cabinets or frameless cabinets.  You have choices concerning the quality on everything from drawer guides to box construction.

They also have many different material options.  They have all of the standard wood choices- Maple, Cherry, Oak, Alder, Hickory, etc.  But, they also have a wide variety of high end laminates and thermofoils.  Recently they have also added a number of exotic woods such as wenge, bamboo, and rosewood.  They use many green practices as well which I really like.

They have an extensive catalog of options for actual cabinetry pieces and internal accessories, but if there’s anything they don’t have, I just draw it up and send it in for a price.  I haven’t found anything yet that they can’t do.  You get all of the custom options at semi-custom pricing.

They also have a lower end line called NewCastle.  This line doesn’t have as many options but it is very reasonably priced.

My favorite things are their new Italian glass inserts and aluminum and stainless steel door options.  There are so many options now with their new stuff, it’s pretty exciting.

Check out their website ( to see some examples of what can be done.
